As GongKwon YuSul is going strong around Australia, we are going to start putting up regular news posts about the goings on of the clubs around the country. Below is the first of these news posts submitted by Jenni Klaus from Mu Do Kwan Hobart.

In addition, check out the videos page for some new YouTube clips which were taken by Kwang Jang Nim Vincent Bacon whilst recently in Korea with Gold Coast instructor Sabum Nim Joel Borgeaud. Included is a GK documentary that was filmed while they were there.

There will also be some further developments to the website in the near future, so check back regularly!

Hobart, Tasmania News – July 2010

The Hobart Mu Do Kwan club is currently training hard for an upcoming GK grading in mid-August, with seven of our students hoping to participate. Launceston and Hobart will be putting aside their very friendly rivalry to conduct a joint training session at the Hobart club in preparation for the grading. Despite several injuries and flu/cold sufferers, training is going very well. Thanks go to our instructor, Rachel Burns, who has sacrificed personal time to be able to run the club, as well as some of her own training time. A huge thanks must also go to our honorary club member, Andrew Mendlik, who frequently flies to Tasmania from Melbourne to ensure that our club keeps going and that the enthusiasm here for Gongkwon Yusul only grows.

This week sees Gongkwon Yusul Australia's Chief Instructor, Vincent Bacon, leave for a training trip at the GKYS HQ gym in Seoul, Korea.

He will be joined a week later by Gold Coast Instructor Joel Borgeaud. Joel is on his first trip to Korea, the home of so many fabulous martial arts including of course Gongkwon Yusul!

Best of luck to both of them and keep an eye the Facebook page for updates!

Gongkwon Yusul in the Media!

The latest issue of Australasian Taekwondo magazine includes a technique sequence for a defence aginst a knife attack by GKYS Australia's Chief Instructor, Vincent Bacon; assisted by the, always enthusiastic, GKYS black belt from Melbourne Mark Derrick.

The technique demonstrated actually comes from Gongkwon Yusul's parent art of You Sool Kwan Hapkido. This is the first time Yoo Sool Kwan Hapkido has been shown in public in Australia so if you want a small taste of GKYS' origin art pick up a copy now!

On a disappointing note we have been informed that this will be the last issue of Australasian TKD magazine for the foreseeable future, so we would like to publicly thank all the editors that we have worked with for their support in helping us publicise Gongkwon Yusul and Hapkido here in Australia.
