Gongkwon Yusul in the Media!

The latest issue of Australasian Taekwondo magazine includes a technique sequence for a defence aginst a knife attack by GKYS Australia's Chief Instructor, Vincent Bacon; assisted by the, always enthusiastic, GKYS black belt from Melbourne Mark Derrick.

The technique demonstrated actually comes from Gongkwon Yusul's parent art of You Sool Kwan Hapkido. This is the first time Yoo Sool Kwan Hapkido has been shown in public in Australia so if you want a small taste of GKYS' origin art pick up a copy now!

On a disappointing note we have been informed that this will be the last issue of Australasian TKD magazine for the foreseeable future, so we would like to publicly thank all the editors that we have worked with for their support in helping us publicise Gongkwon Yusul and Hapkido here in Australia.

Ho-Shin!

Australian visitor to Gongkwon Yusul in Korea
posted Sunday, 18 Oct 2009 by kibitzer

Recently one of our Gongkwon Yusul Australia associates paid a visit to the Gongkwon Yusul headquarters in Korea. Some of our regular GKYS seminar attendees may remember Damian, a TKD instructor from South Australia, he recently returned from a martial arts tour of Korea which also included a visit to Master Kangs gym in Seoul.

Unfortunately things did not go entirely to plan as the gym was closed due to Korean holidays, however he did get to participate in a seminar of short stick material (Yeomtasul).

Despite his disappointment at not being to train in Gongkwon Yusul (and also the fact he a gained a badly gashed finger during the stick sparring) he says he very much enjoyed meeting master Kang and his visit to the head gym of our unique martial art.
